What is a Mini Vinnie?

Mini Vinnies are the youngest members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), an international Christian charity dedicated to tackling poverty and supporting those in need.

What Do Mini Vinnies Do?

Mini Vinnies engage in a variety of activities that promote kindness, empathy, and social action.

What Mini Vinnies Do When Organising Events

Start with “See, Think, Do”

  • See – What’s the problem or need? (e.g. hunger, loneliness, homelessness)
  • Think – What can we do to help? What resources do we have?
  • Do – Take action through an event or campaign

Plan the Event
Mini Vinnies help with:

  • Choosing the type of event (e.g. food collection, fundraiser, community project)
  • Setting a goal
  • Picking a date and venue (school hall, playground, classroom, etc.)
  • Creating a name or theme for the event

Promote It

  • Make posters and signs
  • Write and read out announcements in assembly
  • Visit classrooms to spread the word
  • Help create displays
  • Use social media or newsletters (with teacher/parent help)

Get Everyone Involved

  • Encourage class members and families to join in
  • Explain the “why” behind the event so others understand who it helps
  • Set up collection boxes, donation points, or event stations

Run the Event
Depending on the event, Mini Vinnies:

  • Greet participants
  • Collect and sort donations
  • Help with setup and pack-up
  • Keep a tally of items collected or money raised
  • Wear badges or Mini Vinnie shirts to show leadership

Say Thank You & Reflect
After the event, Mini Vinnies:

  • Help thank everyone who donated or helped
  • Reflect as a group: What worked well? What did we learn?
  • Share results in assembly, newsletter, or with local Vinnies group.

Our Mini Vinnies food bank collection was a beautiful way to live out “see, think, do” in action!
